Hot Caramel Spoon 'n Bake
Tasting is believing! Rich in flavor, this dessert will entice caramel lovers everywhere.
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup Sun-Maid Natural Raisins
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- whipped cream (optional)
GREASE a 9-inch square pan.
COMBINE flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
STIR in raisins, then milk; stir just until dry ingredients are moistened.
SPREAD batter in greased pan. In saucepan, combine water, brown sugar and butter.
COOK over medium heat, stirring frequently, until sugar is dissolved and butter is melted.
Carefully POUR hot mixture over batter.*
BAKE for 30 to 40 minutes.
SERVE warm, spooning out cake and turning upside down.
TOP with whipped cream, if desired.
Makes 8 servings.
*The syrup will seem to thin, but it forms a delectable sauce as the cake bakes.
