Holiday Gift Jars
Homemade easy-to-make mixes make welcome gifts for the holidays.Fruited Rice Pilaf:
- 2 teaspoons chicken bouillon granules
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 cups quick-cooking white or brown rice
- 1/2 cup thinly sliced Sun-Maid California Apricots
- 1/2 cup Sun-Maid Tart Cherries
- 1/4 cup toasted slivered almonds or pine nuts
MIX first 4 ingredients in bottom of a 28-32 ounce size glass jar.
POUR rice over spice blend.
LAYER separately the apricots, cherries and nuts over rice. Pack fruit to fit in jar if needed.Â Close jar and decorate.
Bring 2 cups water to a boil. Add entire contents of rice mix. Cover and let stand 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve.
Note: Instructions above are for 2 cups of quick-cooking rice. Adjust cooking time and amount of water according to rice package directions.
Makes 4 cups.
Fruity Smores Bars:
Layer marshmallows and fruit bits in a 28-32 ounce size glass jar.
Package chocolate chips in a plastic sandwich bag and place on top of fruit. Close jar.
Package graham crackers in a plastic bag and tie to lid with ribbon.
Combine chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons peanut butter in a microwave-safe bowl.
Heat on medium power 2-3 minutes; stir until smooth.
Break graham crackers into small pieces.
Stir graham crackers, marshmallows and fruit bits into chocolate mixture until evenly coated. Press evenly into an 8x8-inch pan. Refrigerate 45 minutes or until set. Cut into squares.
Makes 16 bars.
Fruit and Nut Snack Mix:
Layer a selection of Sun-Maid Raisins, Apricots, Fruit Bits, Cherries or Cranberries with peanuts, almonds, pistachios or walnuts in any size glass jar.
Close jar and decorate.
