Muesli is an oats or flaked grain based cereal chock full of dried fruits and nuts. Some recipes call for toasting the grains, but traditional Swiss recipes usually do not. It can be served raw, or soaked over night in enough milk, yogurt or fruit juice to moisten. Serve topped with fresh fruit if desired.
This is an approximate ratio of ingredients. Experiment with different amounts and varieties of dried fruit to make your own favorite cereal.
- 4 cups oats or combination oats, rye and wheat flakes
- 1/2 cup Sun-Maid Natural Raisins
- 1/2 cup Sun-Maid Apricots, chopped
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- 1/4 cup flaked coconut Serving variations:
COMBINE all ingredients and store in an airtight container.
COMBINE 1/4 cup cereal with 1/2 cup yogurt, milk or fruit juice; soak for 5-10 minutes or overnight.
MIX 1/2 cup muesli with 1/2 cup milk or water in a saucepan or microwavable bowl. Bring just to a boil, simmer 3-5 minutes.
Then, ADD chopped apple, peaches, nectarines or berries during soaking or cooking, if desired.
SERVE topped with fresh fruit and yogurt.
